Admissions

Applications for enrollment will be accepted at all times. Currently enrolled children are given priority upon receipt of Renewal Contracts and annual registration fees. New student applications will be processed to fill all remaining class positions, prioritizing 3 yr old children first. When positions are not available, Augsburg Park Montessori School will maintain a pool of applicants on a wait list. To be considered for enrollment a child must be 33 months of age and toilet learning.

No child shall be denied admission to Augsburg Park Montessori School on the basis of race, ethnic background, religion, social class or family structure.

Observation

The best way to know and understand the Montessori classroom is to observe. Parent observations are offered during our morning work period, mid-October through the end of March. Observations are adult only and must be scheduled in advance. It is strongly recommended that interested parents schedule an observation.

Informational Interview

After observing, an informational interview may be scheduled. This is a time for us to get to know you and your child better, gather additional information, and verify that our environment will meet your child’s needs. During this meeting we will discuss Montessori philosophy and program specifics of Augsburg Park Montessori School.

Enrollment

If a position is offered to your child, a non-refundable enrollment fee and tuition deposit will be due within two weeks of notification. Upon receipt of a tuition deposit, we will reserve a position for your child in our program. Tuition deposits will be applied to last month’s tuition the following year.

Our two children, Leah and Ethan, started at APMS when they were 3 and 4. Ethan continued at APMS through his kindergarten year, and Leah will do the same. We could have put them into a local public Montessori school, but we kept them at APMS because of the quality of the relationships they had there, both with their classmates and their teachers. APMS provides a rich, warm atmosphere, where children learn to care for each other as they grow and explore their world. I have no doubt that our public schools can teach most children to read and figure quite well, but I’m not sure they foster a love of reading, a passion for learning, an innate drive for exploration — things that, once discovered at the start of a journey into education, never leave a child. Our children are now inexhaustibly curious about their world, and will be lifelong learners, because of their start at APMS.

Both of our daughters attended Augsburg Park Montessori School and both, despite their different personalities, had an excellent experience. APMS staff are loving, flexible, intentional, and committed to kids and learning. They have an authentic Montessori program without being rigid and both of our children learned and thrived. Highly recommend!

The Montessori education that our children have received has set them up for development in all areas of their lives teaching them behavior/conflict resolution, manners, leadership and care of environment. Confidence and self-direction become the motivation for learning. After witnessing the hushed tones and respect shown to their teachers and other children while they busily worked during a classroom observation, I was able to rest assured during my work day that they were receiving the best possible education in a nurturing environment. We love, love, love Augsburg Park Montessori School! Our son started there after moving from out of state and being in an in-home daycare from 12 weeks to 3 years. When we moved, we toured over a dozen places, but none of them made us feel as comfortable as APMS. It’s a small program, which we feel blends together the best of in-home and center based daycare/schools. We weren’t specifically looking for a Montessori school, but after we toured a few others, we ended up liking the philosophy and realized APMS is the real deal; teaching Montessori principals and not just a Montessori in name. The teachers are all wonderful, caring, and you can tell the kids just love to be with them! They’ve done a fantastic job of managing the challenges of in-person learning during COVID. Since we’ve been attending for almost a year, our formerly shy son has thrived in his emotional, physical, and academic development! We sincerely couldn’t recommend APMS more!

This small, but incredibly substantive Montessori program has been a fantastic fit for our daughter. The teachers are devoted and passionate about creating authentic curriculum for the children. It is a joy see our daughter learn and gain independence every single week!

Augsburg Park Montessori School is a small community that sees children as capable and competent. Sinead artfully observes children and comes alongside them to encourage their interests and provide a space where they can learn through them. After moving from a traditional preschool, we have seen our son become more relaxed (less stressed), empathetic and helpful, and more curious and open to trying new things. Not to mention all of the academic learning that he has seemingly "picked up" along the way through the purposeful games and activities tailored to his level! From the wall of windows that lets sunlight stream in, to the mugs that are available to children to drink from, from the fuzzy bunny to the organized and appealing Montessori materials, from the coat tags with each child's picture and name to the raised beds for gardening outside, Augsburg Park Montessori School is a welcoming community where children are well supported as they grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
